The Sky Guide
A very professional site that provides information for beginners and long-time observers.  It is a public service of some of the members of the Columbus Astronomical Society (though it is not directly affiliated with that organization).  This site is one of the best submitted to PN for recent consideration.

Andy's Amateur Astronomy
The dark night skies have so much beauty to offer anyone who is willing to put in a little upfront time. My hope is that those who cross this site will have their heavenly curiosity sparked or their interest fanned into flames. Personal Observation recordings and advice for people searching for telescope and accessory advice.

Tasmanian Amateur Astronomers Online
In PN's ongoing effort to recognize great astronomy sites around the globe, we present this excellent site: The Tasmanian Amateur Astronomers online web site is dedicated to publishing Articles and Images by Tasmanian Amateur Astronomers.

Mapping the Moon
All about the beauty of space and the moon. Plenty of details about the moon itself but also about the solar system. This site includes loads of my own astrophotographs but also tutorials, tips, links and a community area for people to share questions, sales, chat - the works & more!

Jeff MacQuarrie's Astronomy Homepage
Astrophotography images of nebulae, galaxies and star clusters taken with a commercial 16-inch Newtonian telescope and a home built (CB245) ccd camera. Included are descriptions of the objects, links to further information and how the images were obtained. Also includes aurora images from Alaska and Maine.

The Build-It-Yourself-Astronomer
This site is dedicated to helping ease the cost of the great hobby of astronomy by providing a resource for amateurs where they can find things that they can make themselves to improve their observing, or just make it more comfortable.

Astronomy
The title says it all.  Bob Newman Submitted this site and it is an extensive listing of many astronomy resources.  Whether it's an accretion disk, planetariums, quantum mechanics or the Zeeman Effect, it will be found here.

Brian's Space Hotlist
Cool site with an EXTREMELY comprehensive set of links to space resources.

Dublin Night Sky Observer
While our European visitors will really appreciate this site, there is something here for everyone.

Sandburg Center for Sky Awareness
A phenomenal site with contributions from students and the planetarium staff from the Carl Sandburg Middle School in Fairfax, VA.

North American Meteor Network 
A site for those who want information about sporadic and meteor shower activity.  One can learn how to observe meteors and coordinate with others observing in North America.

The Dome of The Sky
The Dome of the Sky is your virtual online planetarium. If you enter the dome you can look at the night time stars in different seasons of the year from various locations on the earth. You can click on pictures of the sky to study the mythology of the constellations and learn the names of the bright stars.

The NGC/IC Project
Wow!! Every astronomer should check this one out!  In the site's own words:  A collaborative effort between professional and amateur astronomers to correctly identify all of the original NGC and IC objects, starting with the original discoverer's notes and working forward in time to encompass the work of contemporary astronomers, both professional and amateur, such that the identity of each of the NGC and IC objects is known with as much certainty as we can reasonably bring to it from the existing historical record.

Great site with original astrophotography, links and a great deal of astronomy info.

Bert's Visual Deep Sky Astronomy Page 
An excellent page dedicated to deep-sky observing.  There are observation reports and hints, tips, and tricks on observing the sky.

Quest Station
Another excellent site for astronomy information.  This one has an excellent graphics layout and tons of great information.

ExploreSpace.com
Something for everyone who loves space and  astronomy.  A great listing of planetariums is included so make sure yours is on it!!  Make sure to check this one out!

Space Careers
The Place to look for jobs in the space industry.  A great service that is the most comprehensive space job banks on the Internet.

Mission to Mars
Developed by students, this site has tons of great information for students AND teachers.   In addition the site is well designed and easy to navigate.

Starry Nights-Astronomy Lore & Photos
This is a site with tons of astronomy (constellations and more) stories.  The stories are combined with great images and art.

Markstaff's Astronomy Page
(and space, eclipses, comets, and meteors).  The name says it all!  This page has tons of great links, pictures and more.

Steve's Planetarium Collector's Page
An eclectic collection of planetarium projectors that have been repaired/restored by Steve Pielock.  Some one-of-a-kind machines and some older more common machines.

Comets and Meteor Showers
11-17-98 Gary Kronk has created an awesome site with tons of background info on comets and meteors and current Leonids information.

Astronomy in Japan
11-15-98 Another great site bringing information about culture, tradition, science and astronomy.  Make sure you visit this site while surfing for cool astronomy sites.

Native American Star Knowledge
11-14-98 One of the most comprehensive collections of information about Native American Astronomy.  If you have not been to this site before, I highly recommend it!

The Encyclopedia Mythica
11-13-98 This site has won a number of awards and at first glance might not appear to fit as a "Cool Nite Site" award winner.  However, many star-talks are based on mythology and legend. This site provides over 4200 articles on mythology around the world.

Java Universe
This site includes some great Java animations of things like: the atom, the visible spectrum, black holes, and more.  Though viewing is a bit limited by browser type, (You really need a 4.0 or higher browser and the designer recommends Netscape)  it is still an awesome site.

The Astronomy Club
11-11-98 Not only has this inventive young person created a great astronomy website and learned a second language (English), she has started a petition to reopen her local planetarium.  Best of luck Natasha!

Hubble System of Classifying Galaxies: 
11-10-98 An Interactive Lesson.  This lesson plan is designed for grades 5-9 and includes a complete teacher guide and student information.  This would also make a great workshop (in my opinion).  By George & Jane Hastings.
