Ron, this looks really good. I can see you are always pushing blender to a new level. By the way, did you acquire a new starmap? The one you are using in Expanded View looks really nice, especially the Milky Way.

Dear Ron,
after years working on 3DStudio Max, I'd like to shift to Blender and I just downloaded version 2.5.
A lot of things and of course a different approach have to be learned... I don't know how far I'll be able to go, but I think it's worth a try (this would enable me to quit Win and have it run it on a 64bit serious OS, like Mac or Linux!).
One of the first things which puzzle me is the apparent absence of the "dummy" object equivalent of 3DSMax. I made extensive use of them expecially in cynematics; for example, to have a planet circling the Sun, to tilt its axis, to move, scale or make appear or disappear a group of objects the same way, I tipically link them to a dummy, then make it alone turn, run or vanish. Every linked object then could move or change with respect to it, and so I got complex behaviours in a fairly straightforward way (I also tried the difficult task of modelling a particle spiral the same way... but very hard at rendering time).
I wonder how a trained Blender designer would solve this kind of function.
I had a look at your nice work, and I think you may have some comment or suggestion about my doubt (nobody in Italy is using Blender, at least in astronomy)... in the meanwhile, I think I'll go on practicing with the new release this winter.

Kind regards, Mogi Vicentini
