I do know the carousel projectors on the slew of which you speak. I still have nightmares of trying to line up projectors for our panoramic images. The handheld projectors sound really cool- especially for presentations outside of the dome. I'll wa…

I have seen these projectors online but have not held one in my hand yet. The have a small field of projection and are designed for small areas. Sound like what you need. They are also designed to work off hand-held devices like an iPhone or Blacker…

Kyle, I have looked at Digitalis and Digital Starlab and a couple of other possibilities, but I just can't rationalize the cost. Only about of a third of the programs I do are in the dome. What I'm thinking is if I could have a small handheld proje…

Mike, You might check out Digitalis' new Delta system. It is a true fisheye system for about the same amount of money as you would spend on a more cumbersome mirror system. We (Science Dome in the UK) used the first pre-production Delta unit and we…

Mike Francis added a discussion to the group Portable Domes
Does anyone use one of the small handheld video projectors in their portable dome? I've been thinking about getting one to project moon phases, constellation figures, diagrams, etc. I have a standard Starlab and have used pieces of post-it notes to…

Sally, I tend to stay pretty much within a mornings drive. Staying overnight with the dome, while not impossible, is at least a hassle. I don't like to leave it in the truck in an unfamiliar neighborhood. Taking it into a hotel/motel if you're not…

Galileo at the Maryland Science Center

Last week Galileo was in Baltimore for the opening of "Two Small Pieces of Glass" at the Davis Planetarium. The evening started out with Westminster Astronomical Society setting up some of their telescopes on the courtyard at the Maryland Science Center. If you haven't been to the MdSC, it sits right on the Baltimore inner harbor. Along with the Charles Hayden Planetarium and Museum of Science in Boston, this is one of the great views from a science center. The weather was beautiful, so the ques… Continue

Where's Galileo

I intended to keep a running monologue of Galileo's travels this International Year of Astronomy and obviously I have fallen behind.

Since visiting the Space Telescope Institute, Galileo has gone to the Buhl Planetarium at the Carnegie Science Center, the Franklin Institute for the opening of "Galileo, the Medici and the Age of Astonomy" and again for the Galileo symposium weekend, Six Flags America for Physics Day, the Casper Planetarium (while he was visiting schools in Casper, WY), The Virgi… Continue

Galileo will be kicking off the International Year of Astronomy by visiting the Space Telescope Science Institute, 3700 San Martin Drive, Baltimore, MD on Saturday, January 24, 2009. This will be part of the Starrytelling at the Institute day for their Youth for Astonomy and Engineering program. In addition to Galileo's lectures, there will be arts projects with Diane Tuckman, planetarium programs in the Maryland Science Center's St… Continue

I have seen your Galileo presentation at the Charles Hayden Planetarium. It really inspired me to incorporate theater with Planetarium presentations. Love the pictures!

hmm...no. That wasn't me. hehe. I haven't made a post on anything. I don't know if you even remember me or not. I was one of your "Galilean Moons" at the Spitz Digital Institute back in July. That was a great performance by the way! I bet you're going to be really busy next year. Have fun and I hope to see you again soon!
