I'm moving all of our production education stuff to the Blendheads group on planetarium.net -- this will give everyone a "one-stop-shop" for our collective blender expertise!

Some Elephants Dream Fulldome shots :)

Warped with Blender for some seams can be spotted.

That one maps pretty nicely onto a sphere, but the brightness differential could be better (the difference between bright and dim stars). I like the cylindrical method too (a little farther down the page).

Hello all Blendheads. I was looking at star fields on the internet and stumbled across one made by Paul Bourke. It is a spherical map of all the stars, realistically sized and placed as seen from earth. You can download this image from his site here

Cheers and happy blendering!

P.S., this image is huge

Anim8or was my "very first" 3D software (even before I learned 3DS Max). I had a lot of fun with it while I was using it. Good times.

Talk to Ron Proctor about his full dome camera rig. It produces great full dome images and all you have to do is point the camera the way you want it. Then when you render render a png sequence.

In my experience, and based on what I understand of making dome master fisheyes, Anim8or cannot handle fisheyes for fulldome rendering. I did a few experiments while we had a fulldome system at our facility for a demo, but there are some bugs in the program that prevent it from being useful (some imperfections in handling spheres), besides the ray tracer also seeming to be slower than Blender's (though that might be more of a ray depth issue on my end). Since I felt the winds of fulldome blowing, I figured I needed to get used to a program that'll be of more use to me when the day comes.

Anim8or may still have some uses for modeling, but Blender seems to have a lot of features that will be much more useful (I've really enjoyed what can be done with sculpt mode).

Thanks for the link to the course, I'll definitely look into it.

Welcome Daniel!

Will Anim8or render dome master fisheyes? if so it might be a good tool for some things...

As you (or anyone else) start learning blender you may find http://ocw.tufts.edu/Course/57
to be useful

it's a full - free - online course from tufts on learning blender from the very beginning.

Take care.

Hello everyone! As a recent convert to Blender (was using Anim8or before) it was suggested by some I join this group--although I didn't want to introduce myself untill I had something to share. I recently finished the Blender Basics manual and decided as my first task to recreate something I'd had to first make when I started using Anim8or four years ago: a martian tripod from HG Wells' The War of the Worlds.

Even managed to make a walk cycle (something that always confounded me in Anim8or): http://www.vimeo.com/5509920

I'm really impressed with Blender and look forward to getting a lot more use out of it! I've learned a lot reading through this group already and look forward to learning even more!
