Forum image upload feedback
I have uploaded 2 planetarium-related photos to test the forum image upload feature. Instead of a traditional file selection dialog or an AJAX interface, it uses a Java applet, which seems a bit unusual and heavyweight.
The applet area has refresh problems with Firefox 2 under MacOS X. When scrolling the containing page, the applet area frequently disappears for a few moments. Also, the text field for image captions is a bit small and does not allow rich text formatting. A workaround is to post a comment to the image.

Interesting. There is another option for photos which is to have a Flickr.com widget. This is, of course, somewhat more complex if people don't have Flickr accounts. Maybe with the new Firefox 3.0 release today, it will solve some of these problems!

The issues with the current file upload system are just minor annoyances. A Flickr widget may complicate things for those who don't have accounts yet.
